About Kim Wright

Kim Wright

Theatre Director
Movement & Intimacy

Playful, Collaborative, Rhythm led

My directing is grounded in production analysis and rooted in improvisation.

My practice is driven by a physical understanding of theatre, shaped by dance training and developed through movement based and actor training, including work in New York focused on impulse, spontaneity, and truthful response in the moment.

I create rehearsal spaces where actors can explore instinctively, working through action, interaction, and embodied discovery. I am particularly interested in the unexpected: the moments that emerge when performers are given the freedom to follow impulse within a clear dramaturgical framework.

I am fascinated by the relationship between performer and environment. Space, architecture, and atmosphere are central to my process—each set becomes a playground for exploration, where movement, design, and imagination interact to generate meaning.

At the core of my work is connection. I collaborate with actors to uncover the emotional and physical journeys that drive a story, with a focus on how people seek, resist, and negotiate connection with others, spaces, and themselves.

This focus naturally extends into my work as an intimacy director, where I am interested in how vulnerability, trust, and human connection are communicated with clarity, care, and integrity

I’m eager to explore how physical storytelling and nuanced performance translate to screen, open to projects in the UK and internationally.

Arts Administration & Production experience

Alongside my expertise in directing, movement directing, and intimacy direction, I bring extensive experience in arts administration and production support. As an Assistant Stage Manager, I’ve developed strong skills in coordinating rehearsals, supporting Deputy Stage Managers, and attending production meetings—particularly in touring productions, where logistics, flexibility, and attention to detail are essential.

My experience also includes managing key logistical tasks such as booking spaces, conducting research for production needs, and organising travel for cast and crew. In addition to supporting the rehearsal process, I’ve taken on the responsibility of ensuring that productions run smoothly through effective communication, schedule management, and real-time problem solving.

(Kim's) movement created shape and unity. The movement behind the chairs was slow and intimate in contrast to the comedic scenes, so effective“
