Directing Practice
I am a theatre director exploring an embodied approach to text, character and relationship. My directing is grounded in close production analysis and brought to life through improvisation, movement and physical exploration.
My practice is shaped by dance and movement based actor training, including work in New York focused on impulse, spontaneity and truthful response in the moment. These experiences inform how I work with actors: beginning with the text and dramaturgy while remaining open to what emerges physically and instinctively in the room.
I create rehearsal spaces that are collaborative, rigorous and playful, where performers follow impulse within a clear dramaturgical framework, exploring possibilities and shaping them into purposeful theatrical choices.
Space, Connection & Storytelling
I am fascinated by the relationship between performer and environment. Space, architecture and atmosphere are active elements in my process; each production offers a different landscape where movement, design and imagination can interact to generate meaning.
At the heart of my work is connection: how people seek, resist and negotiate connection with others, with the spaces they inhabit and with themselves. I work with actors to uncover the emotional and physical journeys beneath the story, paying attention to the details of behaviour, relationship and physical action that make a character and their world feel alive.
I am particularly interested in how physical and emotional choices inform one another, how a space can change the way a character behaves, how a relationship can change the way a body moves, or how a physical action can reveal something the text has not yet said.
Intimacy
This attention to connection and the physical details of relationships naturally extends into my work as an intimacy director. I love working with the gestures, breath, gaze, touch and shifts in distance that can tell an audience about a relationship before a word is spoken.
This attention to the physical and the unspoken runs through my directing practice. As an intimacy director, I bring the same curiosity, precision and embodied understanding to intimate moments, working collaboratively with performers and creative teams to explore and shape them with clarity, care and safety.
I am particularly interested in how intimacy can reveal character and relationship: what is desired, resisted, withheld or communicated through the body. This connects closely with my wider fascination with space, environment and human connection, and with my belief that physical storytelling can carry meaning alongside, and sometimes before text.
